There’s More to Discover in Letchworth Country™

Letchworth State Park with its deep gorges, three waterfalls, nature trails and historic inn attracts visitors from all over the United States. But there is even more to discover in Letchworth Country.

The park, located in both Wyoming and Livingston Counties, is your gateway to a host of events and attractions in the region. Letchworth Country includes things to do and see in several counties, including Allegany and Genesee, all within a short drive of the park. And all in a beautiful countryside with villages with small-town charm.

The Village of Perry, a park gateway community, is quickly becoming known for the arts. And it’s just minutes from Silver Lake, a popular fishing, sailing and boating lake with public access.

Mt. Morris, another park gateway community, is popular for its many antique shops and is nick-named the “best town by a dam site” in honor of  a Corps of Engineers open-to-the-public dam on the Genesee River. Its exit on Interstate 390 is closest to the park.

Another village that has joined together to welcome visitors is gateway community Geneseo. Another I-390 exit. While not an entrance to the park, Geneseo is only about a 10 minute drive away and is home to the State University of New York at Geneseo, the National Warplane Museum, and an active equestrian community. It’s also about 10 minutes from Conesus Lake.

Warsaw offers a full range of shopping and local and chain restaurants and a medical center. There are many community events, including Blues in the Valley.

Here are some other reasons to “branch out” from the park. Dansville, about 20 minutes away, is known for its  hot air balloon festival. If you are interested in a real country-style county fair, the Wyoming County Fair is about 10 minutes from the park in Pike. The quaint village of Angelica has a great town square (where croquet is played), a summer event, the Allegany County Fair,  and is less than an hour  away from the park. Wellsville, where there’s another big hot air balloon festival, is a little more than an hour. If you prefer ground transportation, you can find a steam train ride in Arcade at the 100-year-old Arcade & Attica RR, just about 35 minutes from the park.

About a half hour to the north, the Genesee Country Village is a great place to spend a day. Featuring period furnished homes and businesses from the 1700s to the Victorian era, many find this village better than Colonial Williamsburg!  Just about an hour south is the internationally known Corning Museum of Glass. About a half hour west is East Aurora with the National Landmark Arts & Crafts Roycroft Campus.

These are only a few suggestions for making Letchworth Country more than a picnic in the park!
