Seasonal Celebrations and Fall Festivities at Genesee Country Village & Museum

Changing colors, harvest happenings, sweet and savory treats, special deals, and seasonal celebrations — all things to look forward to this September at Genesee Country Village & Museum in Mumford.

The last concert in the Summer Sunset Series is 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3. Guests can enjoy music by The Stone-Age Romeos, a Greece, New York band with a long history in the region.

Neighbors Free Weekend is back this season at Genesee Country Village & Museum. On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5, residents of Batavia, East Bethany, Stafford, LeRoy, Scottsville, Caledonia and Mumford can enjoy free admission to all the museum has to offer. Stroll through the Historic Village, picnic on the Great Meadow, peruse the John L. Wehle Gallery, hike the nature trails and more. To receive free admission, neighbors need only present a driver’s license or a utility bill with the applicable zip code at admissions.

This Labor Day, visitors to Genesee Country Village & Museum can spend the holiday following the journey of hops, one of New York State’s original cash crops, from field, to brewery, to pint glass. The Hop Harvest Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6. Explore a 19th-century brewery, sample local craft beers, learn how hops were used to dye fibers and fabrics, taste beer bread in a Historic Kitchen, explore the medicinal uses for hops, enjoy a historic meal served out of Hosmer’s Inn, and more.

Free admission is offered to all who register in advance for Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day, coming up on Saturday, Sept. 18. On this special day, museum-goers can get free admission to their favorite participating cultural institutions by downloading a ticket from smithsonianmag.com. The Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people, and can be presented at admissions. GCV&M will have a full day of programs and demonstrations for all ages and interests. Meet costumed interpreters in the Historic Village, see wildlife on the Nature Trails, peruse the current exhibitions in the John L. Wehle Gallery and more — all for free.

In celebration of Monroe County’s Bicentennial, and as home to 13 Historic Buildings from around Monroe County, Genesee Country Village & Museum is holding Monroe County Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 and 26. Walking tours of all of the Monroe County buildings will be held at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
